About Me

I'm Jenny, 26 and from a small town in Hampshire, England. I currently live at home with my Mum, Dad, Gran, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. We have 2 cats, called Jaffa and Xena, and 2 dogs - a Golden Retriever called Alfie and a Parsons Jack Russell called Freddie. As you can imagine, it can be a pretty busy house, but I wouldn't have it any other way!

I was diagnosed with M.E/CFS when I was 15, which pretty much turned my life upside-down. Before then, I had planned to study Medicine at University, but the longer I was ill, the more I realised that a career as a Doctor simply wouldn't be right for me. I began to develop clinical depression and an eating disorder, and ended up spending a lot of my teenage years in and out of various hospitals. As my health stabilised a bit, I went back to college to study for a Diploma in Childcare and Education, then onto University to study Childhood and Youth Studies. However, it wasn't meant to be and after a few months I returned home.

I then decided to give The Open University a try, and took up a part-time degree in Psychology, while also working part-time as a Learning Support Assistant in my local Secondary School. Things were relatively good for a few years, but in 2012 my health took a massive dip and I ended up back in hospital. Physically and mentally I was very unwell, so my work and study were put on the back burner while I tried to gain my health back to where it had been before. In 2014 I finally received the diagnosis of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Hypermobility Type. We always knew that the M.E diagnosis didn't explain a lot of my symptoms, so being diagnosed with EDS was a relief in a lot of ways as I finally had some answers. I have subsequently been diagnosed with POTS and am under investigation for my digestive problems and urinary problems. In September 2014, I started an Access course at my local college studying Biology, Chemisty, Psychology and Sociology. And that brings me up to where I am now having just completed that course! I plan to start a Journalism degree at a local University in September 2015.

I started Ramblings of a Jaffa Cat, my other blog, in October 2013. I love having a place away from my illnesses that allows me to express myself and talk about things that interest me. However, more recently my health has become more of a problem and I have struggled to keep up with my blog. For a while now I have been considering starting up another, more personal, blog, where I can keep more of a diary of what goes on with regards to my health and general day-to-day living. And that's when Unicorns and Floral Crowns was born. I decided to choose a name that encapsulated things that make me happy because I think it's so important to find little joys i every day life to help you keep fighting and smiling.

I hope you will enjoy following my blog as much as I enjoy writing it!

Jenny xxxx
